My Labour Tips!

I figured since I'd already done my breastfeeding and newborn tips I'd do the most backward thing possible and post about my labour tips... but just take it from me. Nothing and nobody can EVER prepare you for labour!
So here goes......

-DONT BE AFRAID TO POO
The chances are, its going to happen. The chances are you won't even know because it'll be swiftly scooped away and everybody in the room who knows it happened will pretend they saw nothing. Its normal, so so normal. I mean think about it, you're pushing down so so far and hard as if you were about to the do the biggest poo in your life. Just know its going to happen, its cool and let it happen!

-WHATEVER YOU DO, DON'T LOOK DOWN THERE!
It won't be pretty, like you'll wanna cry or scream or faint. I mean I'm sure you can dare to imagine what a very small hole that has pushed a big old head out will look (TMI I know, thats the joys of motherhood my dear!). Keep your eyes up, head straight ahead and focus on that beautiful newborn in front of you.

-LEAVE YOUR DIGNITY AT THE DOOR
Once you enter that labour ward, realistically nobody cares. The people who work on that ward have probably seen more vaginas than we have episodes of Corrie! Leave any worries or insecurities you have at the door, go in there to do the job you arrived to do and come out a whole new woman :)

-ACCEPT THE POST-LABOUR TEA & TOAST!
From one woman to another, it will be the BEST tea and toast you have ever tasted and probably the most deserved and earned too. It will drag you through those next few exhausting hours of feeding, crying, visiting family members, checking your baby is still breathing, the bleeding tsunami and repeat. Take as many as is offered!

-ACCEPT IT PROBABLY ISN'T GOING TO GO YOUR WAY!
If you are a control freak (like me!) you'll have this meticulous birth plan that in your head has been planned out detail by detail that you've been conjuring up for months and months. Chances are its about to go out of the window, just let it. The midwives, doctors and most importantly your body will know whats best for you right there and then. Relax, embrace the labour and try (I know, enjoy excruciating pain?!?!) enjoy the experience.

Labour is such a beautiful thing, well so TV and some mum's tales make out. Just be aware its not all sunshine and daises but theres not a doubt there that its absolutely magical. Just remember what the end present is :)

Much Love
